The Behler-Young Company
was founded in 1926 by Wayne H. "Brig" Young and John
E. Behler. The early emphasis was distribution of sheet metal
products and almost from its inception, the company manufactured
sheet metal pipe and fittings for the gravity, coal-fired
furnaces it marketed. Repair castings for coal furnaces were the
major items in the 20s and 30s. The founders were committed to
the concept of a high level of customer service and used the
slogan "Same Day Shippers."
In 1989, the company made the decision to
focus its resources and energy in the distribution business and
sold its sheet metal manufacturing plant.
In 1992, the third generation took over
the helm when Doug Young was elected president. Today the
company employs over 200 persons and occupies 415,000-sq. ft. of
office and warehouse space in 17 locations, including Toledo and
an 180,000 sq., ft. state-of-the-art distribution center in
Brighton, Michigan. Though the company continues to grow and
evolve, we at B-Y remain dedicated to becoming the number one
supplier to the heating, air conditioning, hydronic, and
ventilating contractors throughout Michigan.
The Behler-Young Company has had a long
and successful history and has enjoyed a national reputation as
a progressive HVAC/R distributor. Our goal is to be the number one
supplier in Michigan to the HVAC/R contractor and the best place
for our associates to work.
As the company grew it realized the need
for expansion and so began to add branches throughout the state.
Beginning in 1960, B-Y purchased a company in Kalamazoo, and
thereafter added branches in Jackson, Traverse City, Flint,
Muskegon, Saginaw, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Warren, Livonia, New
Hudson, Pontiac,
Taylor, and Toledo.
Behler-Young has two training centers
that have served over 10,000 students in the disciplines of
HVAC/R. The Grand Rapids Training Center was opened in 1993 and
the New Hudson Training Center in 2002. Each Training Center is
dedicated to technical, sales and management training for
customers and Behler-Young employees. Behler-Young has also been
recognized for its support of NHRAW industry education programs.
Along with the Training Centers, a Multi Media Training List is
available for customers to check out various resources to
continue in the pursuit of higher education.
In June 1991, the company acquired the
factory owned Bryant branch in Michigan and became the
distributor for both Bryant
and Payne heating and air
conditioning equipment for Michigan, plus five counties in
northwest Ohio, including Toledo.
The company has made a major commitment
to a data processing system to provide business and inventory
management, including on-line order entry capability providing
real-time access at all of its branch locations.
Behler-Young provides a statewide
delivery service and maintains over 25 trucks with regularly
scheduled deliveries. A major focus is the area of parts and
control systems, and there are knowledgeable persons in each B-Y
location who can assist dealer/contractors with a wide range of
control and system problems.
The company provides assistance on
commercial and industrial heating, air conditioning, and
ventilating products, and is a major distributor of Bryant and
Payne heating and air conditioning, Utica Boilers, Mitsubishi,
Reznor, Hart & Cooley, Honeywell, Johns Manville and
White-Rodgers,
Our mission is to satisfy the needs of
